PARTY FOR A COOLER PLANET
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 21
3:30-6:00 p.m.
EVENT SPEAKERS
We are honored to welcome and highlight our event speakers: Susan Hopp, Plastic Free Marin Activist; Mary Sackett, Marin County Supervisor; and Damon Connolley, California State Assemblymember. Tamra Peters, RN founder and executive director will also speak. All are graduates of RN’s effective program and each one embodies RN’s focus on effective, personal climate action.
- Susan Hopp graduated from RN’s Mission Possible/Carbon Zero Climate Action Team in 2017. Susan earned an MBA from Presidio School Sustainable Management and deepened her focus on the value of personal action and lifestyle change to address climate change through her RN experience. She will share how she helped pass Marin County’s Reusable Foodware Ordinance earlier this year, together with Jinesse Reynolds and a team of Sierra Club PlasticFree Marin activists. This ground-breaking ordinance cuts plastic waste and greenhouse gas emissions by requiring recyclable and compostable take out containers in unincorporated Marin County, has been adopted by numerous Marin municipalities, and is a model for other regions.
- Supervisor Mary Sackett, Marin County District 1, graduated with RN's Ed's North Side Carbon Sinkers Climate Action Team in 2017. An attorney and former aide to Supervisor Damon Connolly, Mary is working to create communities where cutting greenhouse gasses through personal lifestyle changes is easier. She will speak about the importance of addressing climate change in ways that are equitable for all Marin residents – through improving pedestrian and bicycle safety, supporting local businesses and agriculture, building resilience to sea level rise and emergencies, and more.
- Assemblymember Damon Connolly, California State Assembly, also graduated from an RN team in 2017 – Frank Lloyd Wright the Planet, which he completed with a team of Civic Center colleagues while he served as Marin County Supervisor. Among his many service commitments at the State level, Damon serves as Vice-Chair of the Joint Legislative Committee on Climate Change Policy and Chair of the Select-Committee on Wildfire Prevention. We look forward to gaining an inside view of California climate policy from Damon, and to be inspired to our own commitment to service and action.
