Qualified Charitable Distributions
from your IRA

You’re already taking steps to reduce your carbon footprint…you may also reduce your tax footprint while supporting Resilient Neighborhoods! If you have an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) and are 70½ or older, you may be eligible to make a tax-free donation from your IRA to Resilient Neighborhoods through Sustainable Marin (our nonprofit fiscal agent).
These simple-to-arrange donations are income tax-free distributions from your IRA that also satisfy some or all of your Required Minimum Distributions. These distributions are not reported as taxable income on your tax returns (nor are they considered charitable deductions).

To qualify for a Qualified Charitable Distribution:
  • You must be 70½ or older when you make your donation.
  • Your IRA custodian must make the distribution directly to Resilient Neighborhoods, a fiscally sponsored project of Sustainable Marin (EIN 94-3308034).
  • Your qualified charitable distributions can total up to $100,000 per year.

To make your Qualified Charitable Distribution to Resilient Neighborhoods, please click here to download a letter you can fill in to instruct your broker or IRA custodian about your giving wishes.

Please Contact Development Director Erica Heimberg at DevDirResilientNeighborhoods@gmail.com or to discuss your contribution.
